BD Microtainer® Plasma Tubes with Separating Gel and Lithium Heparin are designed for the collection and processing of small-volume capillary or venous blood samples. Supplied in a pack of 50, these compact tubes are suitable for professional healthcare and laboratory environments where smaller specimen volumes are required.

Each tube contains lithium heparin together with a separating gel for the preparation of plasma specimens. Following appropriate centrifugation, the separating gel provides a physical barrier between the plasma and cellular components of the collected blood sample.

A practical fill-level marking is incorporated into the tube design to help users collect the appropriate volume of blood. This supports the correct ratio between the blood specimen and the additive contained within the tube, an important consideration when working with small-volume samples.

The BD Microtainer® format is designed for convenient collection and handling of smaller blood specimens. The tubes can be used for capillary or venous blood collection where appropriate and should be incorporated into established collection and laboratory procedures.

For laboratories requiring centrifugation of Microtainer® samples, compatible tube extenders are available separately. These extenders allow the smaller Microtainer® format to be accommodated within equipment designed for standard 13mm x 75mm tube racks.
